Rosenthal recognized for Haiti work

Hannah Rosenthal, the U.S. State Department’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, received on Aug. 3 the Tikkun Olam Award from the Haiti Jewish Refugee Legacy Project for her work with the project, according to a JTA report published in the September Madison Jewish News.

The project documents and commemorates Haiti’s role in providing refuge to between 100 and 300 Jews fleeing the German Nazis during World War II. The award is given to individuals or organizations dedicated to Holocaust or World War II research.

Rosenthal lived in Madison for many years and still maintains a home there. She spoke in Milwaukee earlier this year. (See Chronicle, March 2011.)
