Blumberg to lecture on Harnack’s intellectual influences

Milwaukee Judaic educator Sherry Blumberg, Ph.D., will deliver a series of lectures on “Movements that Shaped Mildred Fish Harnack’s Life and Legacy: Progressivism, Socialism, and McCarthyism,” at the Jewish Museum Milwaukee on three Tuesdays in November at 10:30 a.m. Topics and dates are:

• Nov. 1, “Progressivism: Seeking New Answers to the Problems of the First Quarter of the Twentieth Century — What, Where, Who, and the Issues.”

• Nov. 15, “Milwaukee’s Sewer Socialism: Emil Seidel and Victor Berger, Philosophical and Biblical Basis.”

• Nov. 29, “McCarthyism: Response or Fascism Itself? From Joe McCarthy to Today: How People’s Fear Equated Socialism, Communism, and the Dreams of a Just and Honest Society.”
