Laura Rachel Baruch of Milwaukee and Charlie Sherman of Minneapolis were married on June 19, 2011 in Chicago. Rabbi Michael Siegel and Hazzan Alberto Mizrahi officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Judy and Steven Baruch, Ph.D., and the granddaughter of Bernice Spivek, all of Milwaukee. Laura graduated from the Milwaukee High School of the Arts and from Columbia College in Chicago. She was the membership director and later the Mellon Family Program director at Anshe Emet in Chicago.
The groom’s parents are Arthur and Patricia Sherman of St. Louis Park, Minn. Charlie graduated from a joint program of Columbia College and Jewish Theological Seminary and has a master’s degree in Jewish education from JTS. A former Jewish studies principal at the Milwaukee Jewish Day School, he is the religious school director of Am Yisroel Conservative Congregation in Northfield, Ill. Charlie is the father of Michael, 7, and Gabriel, 5, with his late wife Ellie Schore.
The family has settled in Deerfield.
Rebecca Brodie and Gary Olson were married on Aug. 21 at the North Point Lighthouse in Milwaukee. The bride’s uncle, Nathan Gans, officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Jonathan and Susan Brodie, of Glendale. Rebecca works as the administrator at Hillel Milwaukee.
The groom’s parents are Thomas Olson of Menomonee Falls, and Margaret Schmid of Germantown. Gary is senior bartender at the Milwaukee Alehouse.
The couple lives in the Bay View area. They plan to honeymoon next summer in Italy.
Carrie Victoria Beck and Samuel Jerome Weiner of Milwaukee were married Aug. 20 in Nekoosa, Wis.
The bride is the daughter of Patricia and Patrick Beck of Nekoosa. Carrie earned her Master of Social Work degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2007 and works for St. Luke’s Hospital.
The groom’s parents are Karrie and David Weiner of Milwaukee. Samuel is earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and finance at UW-Milwaukee and will be graduating this December.
The maid of honor was Margaret Workman of Minneapolis. Bridesmaids were Jordan Beck of Wauwatosa and Anna Beck of Rio.
The best man was John Schopp of Milwaukee. The groomsmen were Kyle Beck of Wauwatosa, and Todd Beck of Rio.
David Baruch of Milwaukee and Helen Smilovic of Phoenix, Ariz., were married in Chicago on June 21. Rabbi Michel Twerski officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Susan Thayer and the late David Smilovic, and the stepdaughter of Valerie Waxman. She graduated from Chicago’s Anne Blitstein Teacher’s Institute with a degree in special education in June.
The groom is the son of Judy and Steven Baruch, Ph.D., and the grandson of Bernice Spivek of Milwaukee. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master of Arts degree in clinical psychology from Cardinal Stritch University. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in clinical psychology from UWM.
After studying in Israel for the summer, the couple has settled in Milwaukee.
