Alexandra Frolkis of Milwaukee won the top prize in the seventh annual Dov and Arlein Chetner Chai Essay Contest, run by the Jewish Community Foundation of Calgary.
The essay topic was “Recent statistics indicate a change in feelings for Israel in the under 35s. How will this affect Israel? What might this mean to the Jewish Diaspora?”
Frolkis’ essay received the first prize cash award of $2,700. The second and third prizes were $1,800 and $900, respectively.
She also received a “Studentship” from Alberta Innovates-Health Solutions this past March. This program is funded by the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Endowment Fund, which supports health research.
Frolkis is a graduate student in community health science at the University of Calgary.
