Jewish National Fund-Wisconsin Region will host its 11th annual “Summer Happening” at the Charles Allis Art Museum, 1801 North Prospect Ave., Milwaukee, on Monday, June 27, 7 p.m.
Guest speaker will be Moshe Berniker, spokesperson for the new communities of Halutza in Israel’s Negev Desert. He will share up-to-date information on JNF’s current projects there.
Halutza was founded in 2005 by Jews who had been evacuated from the Gaza Strip. JNF has supported the group’s efforts “to rebuild their lives in a remote corner of the desert that never had been inhabited or farmed,” said Merle Wasserman, JNF General Campaign chair.
According to Sidney Rivkin, Wisconsin JNF director, JNF helped Halutza “by clearing land for housing and farming, laying basic infrastructure and paving roads. As the region grows, JNF is committed to help residents re-establish their social and educational institutions and create beautiful green spaces.”
The “Summer Happening” also will inaugurate Wisconsin JNF’s solicitation campaign and announce the people to be honored at the coming annual banquet.

The banquet is scheduled to be held Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center. Banquet co-chairs are Neena Florsheim, Linda Silberman, Merle Wasserman, and Robin Zaks.
