Philip S. Zuckerman

Lifelong Milwaukeean Philip S. Zuckerman died Jan. 28. He was 79.

He graduated from Lincoln High School, and soon thereafter entered the U.S. Army. Though he served during the Korean War, he remained in the U.S., stationed in El Paso, Texas, according to his daughter, Bonita Zukerman of Milwaukee.

After completing his service, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a major in political science. He married Nadine (nee Shaw) in 1957.

He worked as credit manager and eventually chief financial officer for electronics firms.

He was a member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun and served as president of its brotherhood. He also volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital and at The Guest House. He also was active in the Milwaukee Masonic Harmony Lodge #261, where he served as a Past Worshipful Master and chaplain. Both he and his wife were active in Hadassah.

He enjoyed golf and travel. His daughter said the last trip he took with the family was to Mexico in 2009.

In addition to his daughter and his wife, he is survived by daughters Pam Zuckerman of Vail, Colo., Nancy (Keith) Goldstein of Pasadena, Calif., and Julie (Gary) Schwedt of Denver; son Paul (Rebecca) Zuckerman of Denver; brother Martin (Arlene) Zuckerman of Tucson, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.

Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled arrangements. Funeral services, including a Masonic ritual, were held Jan. 31 at Emanu-El with Rabbi Marc Berkson and Cantor David Barash officiating. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.

The family would appreciate memorial contributions to Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun or Hadassah.
