More than 120 Jewish teens throughout Milwaukee are participating in The Jewish Lens in its second year in the city. This semester-long project focuses on exploring Jewish values and Jewish communities worldwide through photography.
An exhibit of the group’s work entitled “You, Me & Community” will open on Tuesday, May 10, 7-9 p.m., at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd. Admission is free.
Ten local organizations are participating in the project: The Academy (Hillel), Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel, Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, Congregation Emanu-El of Waukesha, Congregation Shalom, Congregation Sinai, the Milwaukee Jewish Day School, the Torah Academy of Milwaukee, and Yeshiva Elementary School.
Following the May 10 exhibit and reception, the exhibit will be moved to the Jewish Museum Milwaukee for public viewing from June 12 through July 12. The museum is located at 1360 N. Prospect Ave.
The Jewish Lens is a non-profit educational organization that uses founder Zion Ozeri’s photography as a stimulus for exploring Jewish values, identity, and tradition. The curriculum program has been taught in more than 100 educational institutions throughout the U.S. and Israel. Kipp Friedman is the Midwest coordinator of the program.
The Jewish Lens Milwaukee is offered through the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the education program of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, and is made possible by a grant from The Covenant Foundation.
