Friendship Circle to honor Mitzvah Corps at dinner

The Friendship Circle will honor 37 elementary and middle school aged volunteers of its Mitzvah Corps at its first annual dinner Thursday, May 19, beginning at 5:45 p.m. at The Shul in Bayside.

The Mitzvah Corps carries out hands-on “Mitzvah Missions” by assisting seniors and the home-bound in our community. Children learn about selfless giving while our senior members impart a lifetime of learning and wisdom to their  young friends.

In the program’s first year, the children have dedicated more than 850 hours to the program. First Year “Mitzvah Missions” included grocery shopping; yard clean-ups; a kosher Thanksgiving dinner; Chai Point holiday connections; koshering a kitchen; game nights; matzah making; computer assistance; and one-on-one time with seniors.

The Shul is located at 8825 N. Lake Dr. Formal programming and dinner will begin at 5:45 p.m. and will feature remarks by Mitzvah Corps parent Tamar Kaswan and volunteer Sam Gianakos.

Cost of the dinner is $18 for guests with a maximum of $54 per family, and there is no charge for volunteers. This event is open to the community but does require an RSVP by May 12.
