Sherwood “Sher” Temkin of Milwaukee and Boca Raton, Fla., died Feb. 7 of mesothelioma. He was 80.
A Milwaukee native, he grew up in Shorewood, where he was captain of the high school football and tennis teams. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned bachelors and master’s degrees in business.
After service in the U.S. Army, he and his brother Bud, a plastics engineer, started Port Shell Molding in Port Washington. They later moved the business to Pewaukee and established an additional business, Tembro Engineering. Bud died in 1998, and Sher sold the businesses some time thereafter.
In 1957, he married Libby (nee Lindenberg). They had three children. One, daughter Robyn Temkin, died of malignant melanoma in 1981 at age 22. This led her parents to create memorial funds in her memory and to establish a children’s theater in her name at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center.
According to his family, he also helped support many other local organizations; and he loved to travel.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Kim (Rich) Taylor of Mequon; son Todd (Pilar) Temkin of Valparaiso, Chile; brother Robert (Leah) of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Blaine Goodman Funeral Service handled arrangements. Rabbi David Cohen officiated at the funeral on Feb. 13. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Robyn Temkin Family Theater Fund, c/o the JCC; and the Robyn Temkin Memorial Fund at Aurora Sinai Medical Center, 945 N. 12th St., Milwaukee, WI, 53233.
