Jewish museum features classes, discussions, lectures

The Jewish Museum Milwaukee will offer several programs and activities in the coming weeks. Unless otherwise noted, all are held at Jewish Museum Milwaukee, 1360 N. Prospect Ave.:

• Continuing Exhibit: “The Children of Israel Journeyed: Selections from the Chagall Bible Series.”The special exhibit of 21 etchings by Marc Chagall, on loan from the Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University, continues through June 6.

Women of Valor Series: “Deborah Dash Moore: Walkers in the City: Jewish Women Photographers,” Sunday, April 3, 2 p.m.

In the mid-1930s, young American Jewish women picked up cameras to photograph their urban world, honing their craft at the New York Photo League (1936-1951). This lecture is presented in collaboration with the Sam & Helen Stahl Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Kosher refreshments served. Free.

• “Chagall and the Bible Series: History, Theology, Process.” Part I: Thursday, April 7, 1:30 p.m.; Part II: Thursday, April 14, 1:30 p.m.

This class will be taught by Haggerty Museum of Art Curator of Education Lynne Shumow and Marquette University Associate Professor of Theology Dr. Deirdre Dempsey. Cost (per session): Free for members, $5 for non-members.

• Book Talk: “The Wicked Son: Anti-Semitism, Self-Hatred, and the Jews” by David Mamet.Monday, April 11, 1 p.m.

Facilitated by Sherry Blumberg, Ph.D. Free for members, $5 for non-members.

Chagall Special Reception, Sunday, May 1, 6:30 p.m.

This event features a lecture by Charles Mathes, director of the Jane Kahan Gallery (New York City), on “The Chagall Tapestries of Yvette Cauquil-Prince.” Appetizer buffet, wine, and desserts will be provided. Cost: $65 for members, $75 for non-members. RSVP.
