Jewish identity and the arts to be probed at UW conference

The third Conney Conference on Jewish Identity and the Arts is scheduled to be held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison April 6-8.

Presentations will span a wide range of topics, from Jewish dietary traditions to feminism to the Jewish body to Jewish music to Ethiopian dance in Israel.

Keynote speaker will be Connie Wolf, director of the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco.

The conference is a project of the Mosse/Weinstein Center for Jewish Studies at UW-Madison; and it will take place at the Barbara Hochberg Center for Jewish Student Life, home of the Hillel Foundation University of Wisconsin.

In addition, the UW Department of Hebrew and Semitic Studies will present a lecture on “Shifting Perspective on the Dead Sea Scrolls” on Wednesday, April 27, 7:30 p.m., at the Pyle Center.

Speaking will be John J. Collins, professor of Old Testament Criticism and Interpretation at Yale University.
