Rabbi Yaakov Yeshayahu Anton, also known as Rabbi Jack Anton, died Aug. 30 of cardiac arrest. He was 77.
Born in Milwaukee, he was educated at the Chicago Jewish Academy, the Hebrew Theological College in Skokie, the Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore, and Loyola College in Baltimore. He earned rabbinical ordination and a master’s degree in education administration.
He was a Jewish educator who taught in Milwaukee at Yeshiva Elementary School, the Wisconsin Institute for Torah Study, Hillel Academy, and Midrasha. He also at different times taught in South Carolina, Chicago, and Baltimore.
He was a member of Congregation Beth Jehudah, the Milwaukee Jewish Burial Society (Chevra Kadisha), Agudath Israel of America, and the Orthodox Union.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Neche Toiba (Naomi Toby) Anton (nee Cohen); sons Binyomin (Miriam) Anton of Kiryat Sefer, Israel; Rocky (Lauren) Anton of Milwaukee; Avrum (Esther) Anton of Miami, Fla.; Shalom (Rena) Anton of Jerusalem; Daniel (Hindy) Anton of St. Louis; Michael Anton of Flatbush, N.Y.; and Hillel (Elisheva) Anton of St. Louis; brother Arthur Anton; many grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The Jewish Community Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Rabbi Michel Twerski officiated at the funeral on Sept. 1. Burial was in Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery.
