The Milwaukee Area Biblical Archeology Society will present “Ancient Synagogues,” an illustrated lecture by Jodi Magness, Ph.D., on Tuesday, March 8, 7 p.m., at Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Fine Arts Building, 8815 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Magness holds a senior endowed chair in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her books include “The Archaeology of Qumran and the Dead Sea Scrolls”(2002). She has participated on 20 different excavations in Israel and Greece, including co-directing the 1995 excavations in the Roman siege works at Masada.
Her presentation will explore such questions as: Where and when did synagogues begin to develop? How do ancient synagogues compare with the modern institution?
