The Israel Center of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation will bring Shira Ozery, director of the Jewish Agency for Israel’s Midwest Regional Aliyah Office, to Milwaukee Jan. 19-20.
Ozery made aliyah in 1973 and has a long history of working with immigrants as a director of a JAFI absorption center in Israel.
On Wednesday, Jan. 19, 7 p.m., Ozery will give a presentation entitled,“Life in Israel–What Does Israel Have to Offer?”The presentation will be held at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd. It will be free and open to the public.
In addition, on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m., Ozery will be a co-presenter, along with Israel emissary to Milwaukee Paz Goldschmidt, of the 2007 film “The Woman from Sarajevo.” The film tells the story of Zineba Hardaga, the first Muslim woman to be named “Righteous Among the Nations” at Yad Vashem.
Hardaga hid a Jewish family during the Holocaust, and the Jewish family helped her family 50 years later in Sarajevo. The film is part of the “Cutting Edge Israel” series co-sponsored by the Coalition for Jewish Learning, the JCC, and the Israel Center. The film presentation will be at the JCC, and will be free and open to the public.
