Goldberg named executive director of Jewish Community Foundation

The Milwaukee Jewish Federation has announced that Caren B. Goldberg on Feb. 1 will become executive director of the Jewish Community Foundation, the MJF’s endowment development program.

Bert L. Bilsky, long-time JCF executive director and MJF associate executive vice president, will continue in a full-time senior fundraising role, maintaining long-held relationships with key Foundation donors.

“Caren has been with the Foundation for more than 14 years, most recently in the role of director of planned giving and endowments, and she has the complete confidence of the board of trustees and the community,” said JCF Chair David J. Lubar. “At the same time, having Bert’s continuing leadership within the Federation and the Foundation will make for a smooth and seamless transition.”

Bilsky was hired in 1980 as the JCF’s first full-time employee, with the charge of providing professional leadership to the MJF’s endowment development effort.

“Bert’s 30-year tenure as executive director of the Foundation has been nothing short of amazing,” said MJF Executive Vice President Rick Meyer. “Literally from nothing, Bert built a $100 million Foundation through focused, engaged and patient work with donors and with the synagogues and agencies whose restricted funds are held in our Foundation. The JCF is considered to be one of the strongest Jewish endowment development programs in the U.S. today.”

In the new structure, Goldberg will assume professional executive leadership of the Foundation, with responsibility for daily management of the entity, and she will partner with the volunteer leaders in strategic decision-making.

Bilsky will work with individual donors and continue to help expand the financial resource base of the community.
