The Helen Bader Foundation of Milwaukee recently awarded 86 new grants totaling $4,095,430 in support of a variety of projects, primarily in Milwaukee and Wisconsin.
These include several important grants for Milwaukee Jewish community projects, as well as for projects in Israel. They include:
They include 12 grants totaling $492,030 for a special initiative to bolster the Jewish education options located at the North Building of Milwaukee’s Karl Jewish Community Campus. The initiative includes six grants totaling $122,030 for collaborative projects among the North Building partners. (A longer story about this is scheduled for the Chronicle’s January issue.)
In addition, under the foundation’s Community Initiatives grants, the Milwaukee Jewish Federation received two grants totaling $112,000: $75,000 for its 2011 Annual Campaign; and $37,000 for its planned comprehensive survey of the Milwaukee-area Jewish community. (See article on page 3.)
The foundation gave three grants totally $172,000 for projects in Israel.
TheAmerican Jewish Joint Distribution Committee received two grants totaling $97,000: $67,000 for its pilot program in Israel to support family members who serve as the primary caregivers for loved ones with dementia; and $30,000 for its study of end-of-life care of Israeli patients who are in the last phase of dementia.
In addition, theMelabev-Community Clubs for Eldercare in Jerusalem received a $75,000 grant for its new center in East Jerusalem for Arabic-speaking older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.
Based in Milwaukee, the Helen Bader Foundation has awarded more than $187 million in grants and $9 million in Program Related Investments since it was established in 1991.
