Five Wisconsin theaters show film about cantors

Five Wisconsin movie theaters participated in the national screening of the documentary film “100 Voices” on Sept. 21. Theaters all over the country arranged to show the film on that day to help it qualify for Academy Award nomination.

The film shows how about 70 U.S. cantors, members of the Conservative movement’s Cantors Assembly, plus other musicians toured and performed in Poland, linking to one of the sources of traditional eastern European Jewish music. Among the participants was Milwaukee-native Cantor Nancy Abramson, who now serves the Park Avenue Synagogue in New York City.

In Wisconsin, the film was screened at the College Ave. 16 in Appleton, the Bay Park Cinema in Green Bay, the Linemark Tinseltown 14 in Kenosha, the Point Cinemas 16 in Madison, and the Marcus North Shore Cinemas in Mequon.
