Lubey Mintz (nee Paley) of Glendale died June 7 in her home. She was 97.
She was born in Ripon and her family soon moved to Madison. She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for two years until her marriage to Julius Mintz, who became a statistician. Her husband died in 1979, and she moved to Glendale in the early 1980s.

According to her daughter, Phyllis (Marvin) Eisenberg of Lincolnwood, Ill., “Lubey had a flair for fashion and was very artistic.” She did metal crafting and played the piano, especially Yiddish songs, which she also sang. She and her husband won a Jitterbug dance contest in the 1940s, her daughter reported. She learned to drive when she was 50.
Her son, Marshall, died in 1975. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Goodman Bensman Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the service on June 10. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.
