As the statement itself indicates, Jewish students at UWM are being harassed, intimidated, and sometimes physically assaulted on the campus, to the extent that they feel it necessary to conceal their ethno-religious identity.
This is outrageous, unacceptable, and contrary to everything a university should, and once did, stand for.
Yet the statement does not demand action from the university to enforce the law and protect students engaged in lawful, even officially sanctioned activities.
It does not demand that the Muslim Student Association (MSA), a radical organization that has fomented violence and intimidation on campuses across the country, be decertified by the university, and the perpetrators of the outrages at the recent Israel Independence Day observances be expelled, or even disciplined.
It should not be hard to distinguish between legitimate political discussion, which is conducted in polite, measured tones, free of name-calling and physical intimidation, and the sort of activity for which the MSA is becoming notorious.
If we do not respect ourselves, why should others?
