Milwaukee-native Milton Turner died Nov. 1 from a heart attack and the complications of old age. He was 91.
Born in Milwaukee, he attended North Division High School. After graduating, he served as a Marine in World War II. After returning to Milwaukee, he worked in the carpet department at Gimbels department store.
Around 1950, Milton left Milwaukee for California, where he started working for the May Company until his retirement in his late 70s. At the May Company, he “trained employees in the lost art of customer service and sales,” according to his niece, Estelle Siegman of Milwaukee.
After retirement, he volunteered as a teacher’s aid. A lifelong sports fan, he enjoyed coaching basketball players, including, during his time in Milwaukee, at the old Jewish Community Center on Prospect.
“Milton had a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed,” Siegman said.
He is survived by his wife Florence Turner of Reseda, Calif.; daughters Petrice (Dennis) Ryan of Glendale, Calif., and Iva Turner of Santa Monica, Calif.; and sister Eunice Roth of Mequon.
Services were held in California.
