Gladys Bernstein Katz Fredman died on Nov. 15 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was 85.
Born in Memphis, Tenn., and raised in Caruthersville, Mo., she lived in the Milwaukee area for more than 50 years before moving to Minneapolis in 2008.
A bookkeeper at WOKY radio, she enjoyed art, dancing and theater. A longtime member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, she was involved with Hadassah, the Elk’s Club, the American Legion and the Milwaukee Dog Training Club.
“Her favorite volunteer responsibility was working in the gift shops of St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s and the Jewish Home and Care Center,” her family said.
She is survived by daughter Sherry Katz Harris of Hendersonville, N.C.; sons David J. (Kathleen) Katz of Apple Valley, Minn., and Roger J. (Rebecca) Fredman of Denver; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Nate Fredman, died in 1983.
She donated her remains to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program. Memorial services will be held near her children.
