Arthur Lang

Milwaukee resident Arthur Lang, 94, died on Sept. 23.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Penn. A self-employed butcher, he owned a wholesale grocery warehouse with his two brothers. In 1963, he moved with his family to Allentown, Penn., where he owned and operated Liberty Kosher Deli with his wife, Dena Lang, for 25 years.

After retiring, the couple moved to Pembroke Pines, Fla., and, in 2005, moved into Milwaukee’s Jewish Home and Care Center.

He owned and showed two five-gaited horses and raised champion boxer dogs. He also loved to golf.

“But his major hobby and the major concern in his life was his family,” said son Ivan M. (Amy) Lang of Glendale, adding, “He not only spent 70 years with my mother but they were literally never apart for more than a few days in those 70 years.”

Arthur was a long-time member of the synagogue that his father helped found, Ohav Zedek Synagogue in Wilkes-Barre.

In addition to his son, Arthur is survived by his wife Dena; daughters Sonia Lang (Robert) Kantor of Palo Alto, Calif., and Linda Lang (Alan) Mellner of Shavertown, Penn; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 25 in Wilkes-Barre. Rabbi Nachman Bruce officiated.

The family would appreciate memorial contributions to Ohav Zedek Synagogue, 242 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
