Bader Foundation to end Jewish Life and Learning grants

The Helen Bader Foundation announced that it will stop making grants for Jewish Life and Learning projects except for its commitment to fund Jewish day school education. The announcement comes after the foundation’s recent decision to commit $10 million over 10 years for an endowment to support day school tuition scholarships.

According to foundation president Daniel J. Bader, the endowment is aimed at ensuring his mother’s legacy beyond the end of the foundation’s grantmaking in 2019. (The foundation was designed to award grants for one generation and plans to close in 2019.)

The foundation has given $28 million in grants to organizations of all sizes throughout the community, Bader said.

In a letter to Jewish Life and Learning recipients, Bader said that the foundation will continue to honor its multi-year commitments.
