Milwaukee native Ruth Miller (nee Peckerman) died on March 16. She was 95.
She attended North Division High School and later worked with her husband Joseph at their businesses, Milborn Shoes in Milwaukee and Miller Shoes in Shorewood. Joseph Miller, to whom she was married for more than 60 years, died in 1999.
She volunteered many hours at her synagogue, Congregation Anshai Lebowitz, where she held all offices in its Sisterhood. She was a life member of ORT America, NA’AMAT USA-Milwaukee Council, Hadassah-Milwaukee Chapter and B’nai B’rith Women, now called Jewish Women International, among others, according to her family.
She especially enjoyed dancing, bridge and mahjong, they said.
In addition to her husband, Miller was preceded in death by brother Joseph Peckerman and sisters Sophie Safer, Eva Jacob and Esther Babush. She is survived by sons Dennis (Sherry) Miller of Grafton and Michael (Patricia) Miller of Milwaukee; daughter Barbara (Richard) Fisher of Milwaukee; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Rabbi Gil-Ezer Lerer officiated at graveside services in Second Home Cemetery on March 19.
