Native Milwaukeean Charles S. Peckarsky, of Mercer Island, Wash., died Oct. 11 of heart failure. He was 90.
A 1936 graduate of Washington High School, Peckarsky attended the University of Wisconsin-Extension in Milwaukee and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1941 from Marquette University.
After marrying Clara (Reiser) Peckarsky in 1942, he served in the United States Army as a supply sergeant in Austin, Texas, and Okinawa until the end of World War II in 1945.
After the war, he sold residential and commercial real estate. He was co-owner of Bremer-Consolidated Industrial Supply Co. of Milwaukee for many years.
An active member of the Jewish War Veterans, Peckarsky had been a member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue and Congregation Sinai.
According to his son, David (Ruth) Peckarsky of Seattle, he gave generously to Jewish and veterans’ organizations throughout his adult life. He “was blessed with a long life, good health, a long family and many trusted friends,” he said.
In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by two grandsons.
Funeral services were held in Seattle on Oct. 13. Rabbi Yechezkel Kornfeld presided.
