Kosher meat shortage should help promote vegetarianism

In regard to the article “Troubles at meat plants prompt fears of kosher shortage” in the Nov. 14 Chronicle:

What a tragedy! Thousands of my fellow Jews will become instant vegetarians, joining me in becoming “green” and contributing to tikkun olam (repair of the world).

Pause for a while and think how much motor fuel, natural gas, electricity and water will not be consumed by thousands of Jews nationwide who are abstaining from eating animals.

Watch as welcome fringe benefits accrue in time to you because you will cease contributing to the cruel “production” and killing of animals. Your disposition will improve with shalom bayit (peace in the home) in tow. Not bad, eh?

When you begin to limit your food intake to mainly fruits and vegetables, your bodies will in time become healthier and will emit a pleasant odor; your own and your families’ health care costs will be reduced, contributing to lowering our nation’s health care costs. You will become a “light unto the nations” (Isaiah 49:6) assisting President Barack Obama in his task of governing the country,

Try it. You will like it. I guarantee it.
