Milwaukee native Hinda Zona Burchman, nee Perlson, of Fox Point died Oct. 23. She was 82.
She was a graduate of Rufus King High School and the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, where she earned a degree in piano in 1948. She also earned registered nursing and a master’s degree in nursing at the Mt. Sinai School of Nursing and the Marquette University School of Nursing, respectively.
She was a music, basketball and hockey enthusiast who also enjoyed the fine arts, her book club and swimming, her family said. She was a passionate supporter of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Fine Arts Quartet, Marquette University basketball team and Jewish National Fund.
She belonged to Congregation Beth Israel, Hadassah-Milwaukee Chapter, and the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, among other organizations, and she contributed to the United Jewish Appeal.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Sheldon Burchman; daughter Lori Burchman Sharpe of Milwaukee; son Philip (Robyn) Burchman of Port Washington, N.Y.; and one grandson.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Jewish Community Funeral Home. Rabbi Jacob Herber officiated at funeral services on Oct. 26. Burial was in Second Home Cemetery.
Memorials to the Jewish National Fund are appreciated by the family.
