While the vast majority of the world’s 1 billion Muslims live in peace, there is an international movement that purports violence and supremacy, said Robert Spencer during a talk titled “Islam: a Religion of Peace?” in Milwaukee on Thursday, Oct. 16.
At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Spencer asserted that while Islam is observed in a great variety of ways and by many hundreds of millions of Muslims living in perfect harmony with their neighbors, there is also an international movement stretching from Indonesia and the Philippines, to Thailand, Kashmir, Chechnya, Eastern Europe, Nigeria and elsewhere.
In the name of Islam, this movement is not only committing acts of violence, but is openly expressing supremacist aspirations that encompass Europe and the United States.
And, Spencer continued, these radicals are in the U.S. working through the Muslim Student Association and other organizations to carry out a well-designed, overt plan grounded in their interpretation of Islamic principles to destroy American civilization from within and subvert all other religions to Islam.
Emphasizing that he was referring to the goals of a small percentage of the Muslim world, Spencer explained that evidence proving this claim has recently emerged.
During the trial of the Holyland Foundation, “the largest Islamic charity in the United States,” which was shut down on allegations that it was funneling charitable donations to Hamas, an internal Muslin Brotherhood document was made public.
This document, called “Explanatory Memo on the General Strategic Goal for the United States,” and dated May 22, 1991, says the Muslim Brotherhood in North America “must understand that their work is to destroy the American civilization and become victorious over all other religions.”
