I am replying to Harriet Schachter McKinney’s letter in the Sept. 12 issue.
Many of us were not born in this country, but I am sure we all entered legally, with proper documentation in spite of the fact that this was often not an easy process.
I would like to know in what country people who crossed the border illegally are treated as kindly as the subjects of the current “immigration debate.” I understand that, for example, sneaking into Mexico makes one subject to a prison sentence.
If we do decide to “forgive and forget” (although not a good idea), let’s at least hope that things get done properly from here on out.
