The Jewish community in Milwaukee still feels like home and I’m sure this feeling won’t leave me for a long time.
This past year, I served as a shin-shinit, a young emissary, in Milwaukee. I worked mainly at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center as a preschool teacher.
Maor Edri and I worked all around the community. We talked with different clubs and groups and worked on building strong and meaningful relationships.
It was an unforgettable, challenging, fulfilling and incredible year, which I would do all again if I got the chance.
An important chapter in my life is closing and a new one is beginning. In November, I will enter the Israel Defense Forces in November as a member of a search and rescue team.
The Israel that I came back to is different. My friends are all soldiers. The Kinneret, which was big last time I saw it, has dried immensely.
But it is so nice to hear Hebrew, to eat real hummus and falafel and to feel the special feeling that you can only feel here.
I would like to thank everyone for making my year so special. This community is so loving, warm and caring, and our replacements, Dar Eitan and Yaniv Carmi, are for sure the luckiest shin-shinim in the U.S.A.
