Milwaukee native Rebecca R. Derzon, nee Johnson, of Glendale, died Aug. 25. She was 59.
A life-long resident of Milwaukee, she and her late husband David Derzon owned a coin business, the David Derzon Company. He died in December 2007.
She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel, its Sisterhood, the Professional Numismatists Guild, Numismatic Guaranty Corporation and Professional Coin Grading Service.
According to her family, Derzon loved nature and animals, especially her companion, Munchkin, a Pom-su (a dog that is a mix of Pomeranian and Shih Tzu) and her eight parakeets. She also enjoyed travel and reading, they said.
Derzon converted to Judaism when she married David Derzon in 1980. They renewed their vows in Israel in 1984. She loved her faith, her family said.
A breast cancer survivor, she did volunteer work with cancer patients. “She was kind, generous and nurturing and possessed an unending curiosity to learn about the world around her,” her family added.
Derzon is survived by her parents, Delores and Robert Jazinski, sister Lori (Rick) Laatsch and brother Paul Johnson, all of Milwaukee.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Blane Goodman Funeral Service. Rabbi Jacob Herber officiated at graveside services in Second Home Cemetery on Aug. 29.
Memorials for cancer research or to Congregation Beth Israel are appreciated by the family.
