James Frenkel of Milwaukee died of a spinal cord stroke on July 9. He was 84.
Born in Bedzin, Poland, Frenkel survived the Holocaust and immigrated to the United States in 1949 or 1950. After a brief stay in Detroit, he settled in Milwaukee in 1951.
Frenkel learned English and worked as a printing press operator for many years. He married Milwaukee native Pearl Goldstein in the mid-1950s and the two raised a family here. Pearl Frenkel died in 1991.
James Frenkel is survived by daughters Ellen and Bonnie Frenkel of Glendale and Cheryl (Mark) Cohen of Westchester, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Jewish Community Funeral Home. Graveside services were conducted by Rabbi Yitzchak Berman at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery on July 11.
