Joseph Robert Stone, of Sarasota, Fla., died on Aug. 14 at the age of 97.
Stone was born in Russia and immigrated to Wisconsin as a young child.
He graduated from North Division High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a medical degree from the University of Chicago.
For many years he worked as an orthopedic surgeon at the Milwaukee Orthopedic Group, which he helped to establish. Stone retired to Florida in 1986.
According to his family, he enjoyed gardening and fishing.
He was preceded in death by wives Rose Stone in 1986 and Helen Philips in 1995. He is survived by son Andy (Jeana Abromeit) of Milwaukee; daughters Jill (Mark) Jensen of Los Altos Hills, Calif., and Nancy Stone of Mountainair, N.M.; sister Marion Ugoretz of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and three granddaughters.
Rabbi Steven Adams officiated at services held at Northshore Funeral Services on Aug. 19. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
