Janet Zien Wintroub

Janet Zien Wintroub, of Omaha, Neb., died of cancer on March 17. She was 85.

Born in Milwaukee, Wintroub graduated from Shorewood High School and the University of Wisconsin.

She worked as a dietician and for 20 years she also managed Lace Laundry, a family business in Omaha.

According to Wintroub’s family, “everyone who knew her, loved her,” and she will be “sorely missed for her warm and giving nature.”

In addition to being an accomplished tennis, golf, and competitive bridge player, she was also very creative with her hands, and enjoyed needlepoint and knitting.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herb Urich, who was killed in World War II, and by her brothers, Burt and Bob Zien. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Ernest Wintroub of Omaha; sons Dr. Bruce (Marya) Wintroub of San Rafael, Calif., Frank (Marge) Wintroub of Fairfield, Iowa, and John Wintroub of Denver; daughter Beth (Tim) Schabacher of Boulder, Colo.; brothers Al (Ditty) Zien of Del Ray Beach, Fla., and Ed (Charlotte) Zien of Milwaukee; sister Betty (Phillip) Croen of Mequon; and six grandchildren.

She was buried in Omaha on March 17.

The family appreciates memorial contributions to the Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun Building Fund or to the Shari Croen Memorial Palliative Care Conference at Froedert Hospital.
