Former Milwaukeean Victor Jay died of natural causes in North Miami, Fla., on Sep. 23. He was 93.
A native of Pittsburgh, Jay moved to Milwaukee as an adult. He worked as a coat and fur buyer for Boston Store, and then as a manager for Rhea Manufacturing.
Later, Jay joined Arthur Schmidt in opening Arthur Jay Sportswear, which closed when Jay retired to Florida in the 1970s.
Jay’s surviving spouse, the former Anita Blink Stockland, said that the two enjoyed spending time at Brynwood Country Club, and were very active in the Jewish community.
“He was very stubborn, very handsome, and we had a hell of a good time,” his wife, 90, said.
Jay was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Janet Knickoll, and stepson Perry Stockland. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Richard Jay of San Diego, Steve Jay of San Jose, Calif., and Michael (Kathy) Jay of St. Louis, Mo.; stepdaughter Jillayne Stockland (Mark) Abolafia and stepson William Stockland, both of New York City; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services and cremation took place on Sept. 27.
