Milwaukee native Sandra (Shlima Esther) Blumenfield died on June 11 in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was 61.
A 1964 graduate of Washington High School, Blumenfield earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1968.
She became involved with the Lubavitch community in Milwaukee and moved to Crown Heights in Brooklyn in the mid-1970s to be closer to the center of that community, her brother Charles (Cobby Shereff) Blumenfield of Mequon stated.
Friends from New York said “how vivacious, witty, intelligent and devoted to Judaism Sandy was,” her brother said. A Torah class was recently held in Crown Heights in her honor, and participants told stories about her and recalled “what a truly good friend and wonderful person she was,” Blumenfield added.
Sandra Blumenfield played flute and violin and twirled the baton. During her high school and college years, she was a member of the Daley Debutantes Baton and Drum Corps. She maintained contact with corps members and often came back to Milwaukee to see them perform at parades and functions.
Charles Blumenfield said that two of the founding members of the Debs attended the funeral, and the family is donating her batons to the corps to benefit young people who may not be able to afford them.
Blumenfield worked as a law office administrator at Glauberman Kessler and Rotmil, LLP, in New York.
She is further survived by sister Barbara Blumenfield of Muskego and brother David (Lorraine) Blumenfield of Trenton, N.J.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Blane Goodman Funeral Service, LLC. Graveside services were officiated by Rabbi Israel Shmotkin in Mound Zion Cemetery on June 13. A funeral service was also conducted in New York.
The family appreciates memorial contributions to New Beginnings – Lubavitch Preschool.
