Milwaukee native Miriam Ann Miller (nee Waxer), of Great Neck, N.Y., died of lymphoma on May 22. She was 54.
Miller graduated from Nicolet High School in 1970 and earned a Bachelor of Science and R.N. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1975; a Master of Education from Antioch University in 1979 and a Master of Social Work from Yeshiva University in 1990. She also earned a CSW-R credential in social work.
After meeting her husband, Monte Miller, at the University of Wisconsin in 1970, she married and lived in Boston and New York City as he finished his dental degree. They eventually settled in Great Neck, where she ran a private counseling practice and they raised four children.
A gifted musician, Miller could play songs by ear on piano after hearing them once. She composed 60 songs that were copyrighted in one year and sold a number of her studio-produced tracks to music companies to be used in commercials and movies around the world.
“Music was her undeniable passion, hobby and ultimately her legacy. [She] will be forever remembered as an exceptionally talented, warm, compassionate, devoted and selfless person. Her friends and family will miss her dearly,” her family said in a statement.
Miller was especially close to her mother-in-law, Beatrice Miller of Milwaukee, who died in February.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Rebecca and Rachel Miller of New York City; sons David and Jeremy Miller of Great Neck, N.Y.; mother Bette Waxer of Florida; sisters Deborah (Leland) Lakritz of New York and Diane (George) Frankenstein of California.
Funeral services and burial were held in Great Neck. Memorial contributions to the Beatrice Miller Beauty Shop Fund at the Jewish Home and Care Center, 1414 N. Prospect Ave., Milwaukee, 53202, are appreciated by the family.
