Bessie Mendelson (nee Kaplan) of Milwaukee died on May 8. She was 99.
Born in Chicago, Mendelson moved to Milwaukee in 1931, the year she married her husband, the late David Mendelson, who died in 1986.
Bessie Mendelson worked as a librarian’s assistant at Wilbur Wright Junior High School and was active in B’nai B’rith Women, Hadassah-Milwaukee Chapter and at New Method Hebrew School.
Mendelson’s hobbies included reading, baking and knitting.
“Bess’s greatest joy was being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to celebrate happy occasions,” said her son-in-law Jerry (Louise) Stein of Milwaukee. “She will be missed by all.”
In addition to daughter Louise (Jerry) Stein, Mendelson is survived by son Jay (Donna) Mendelson of Hemet, Calif.; daughter Ellen (Victor) Levin of Houston; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Blane Goodman Funeral Service, LLC. Graveside services were officiated by Rabbi Jacob Herber at Spring Hill Cemetery on May 12.
