Emanuel Norman Rotter died on May 25 at the age of 79.
Rotter was born in Milwaukee. He graduated from Washington High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and earned his law degree from Marquette University.
Besides his work as a lawyer and court commissioner, Rotter was co-president of the Jewish National Fund. He was also on the board of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue and the Milwaukee Bar Association.
According to his family, Rotter was “inspirational” as a father, husband, lawyer, and teacher. Learning was his “mission in life” and he also enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, traveling and studying the Torah.
His wife, Sandra Rotter, preceded him in death in 1996. He is survived by daughters Violet Rotter of Milwaukee and Bobbie (Dr. Steven) Lorsch of Chicago; son Dr. Steven (Dr. Collette) Rotter of Portland, Ore.; brothers Royal (Muriel) Rotter of Madison and Merton (Dorothy) Rotter of Milwaukee; sister Lillian Zolin of Boston; and two grandchildren.
Rabbi Yitzchak Berman officiated at funeral services held on May 27 at Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue. Burial was in Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery.
