Well-known area handyman Steven A. Korobkin died suddenly of heart problems April 21 at his Bayside home. He was 50.
When the pharmaceutical company he had worked for was sold 10 years ago, he decided to do what he wanted to do and began “Handy Hands.”
What began as a business helping family and friends fix things grew by word of mouth into helping his friends’ friends with projects. He enjoyed being his own boss, and continually took courses to refine his skills.
A native of Detroit, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Thailand during the Vietnam war.
He came to Milwaukee in 1975. Soon after, he met his wife, Faye Zetley, on a blind date and they married several months later.
According to his sister-in-law Linda Zetley, “He died in my sister’s arms. He loved her and his children and often talked about them while working on jobs.”
Those who knew him described him as being “a very special guy who was reliable, honorable and deeply spiritual — who thanked God everyday for his family and his life.”
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Faye Korobkin; daughter Caren; sons Bryan and Marc; his mother Lillian Korobkin of Detroit; sister Anita (Randy) Bernstein of Detroit; brother Mike Korobkin of Detroit; and his in-laws, Carl and Sandra Zetley of Milwaukee.
Funeral services were held April 23.
