Sidney M. Doppelt

Longtime Milwaukeean Sidney M. Doppelt of Fox Point died Oct. 25 of heart failure. He was 82.

A native of Duquesne, Penn., he and his late wife of 49 years, Joy Metz Doppelt, came to Milwaukee from Chicago in 1955. She preceded him in death in 2002.

He was founder and president of the S. Doppelt Agency, which specialized in group health and disability insurance for more than 40 years. He was a life member of the Leading Producers Roundtable-National Association of Health Underwriters and Wisconsin Association of Health Underwriters Man of the Year.

A World War II veteran, he was the son of immigrants and proud of his Jewish heritage, his family said. He participated in many community activities, was a board member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun and was known for his shofar-blowing expertise. His other interests include opera and ballet.

He is survived by son Andrew (Melanie) Doppelt, of Northbrook, Ill.; daughter Amy Doppelt, of San Francisco; sister Frieda Cohn, of Glenview, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
Rabbi Francis Barry Silberg officiated at graveside services Oct. 28 at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorials to the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center or Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun would be appreciated by the family.
