Native Milwaukeean Saralee Gutkin-Begun, nee Gutkin, of Glendale, died Feb. 14 after a long illness. She was 67.
She was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School. In 1960, she earned a bachelor’s degree in speech from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in 1962, she completed an master’s degree in counseling at Loyola University, Chicago.
She was employed as a realtor.
Active in B’nai Brith Youth Organization as a girl, she continued to volunteer as an adult and served as president of BBYO-Wisconsin Region for many years, according to her brother Jerry (Anita) Gutkin of Scottsdale, Ariz.
She was a member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue.
She especially enjoyed charitable work with Jewish youth. She was a Green Bay Packer fan, had a zest for gambling and liked to travel. “She led her life to help those she loved …[and] was also known to give to total strangers if they were in need. She was a wonderful, close, loving sister to [her] brother and [loved] her cousin, Sari Luber, like a sister,” her brother said.
In addition to her brother, she is survived by son Adam Begun of Milwaukee.
Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at funeral services Feb. 17. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
