Former Milwaukeean Samuel Ruskin of Pompano Beach, Fla., died March 17 at the age of 93.
Born in New York City in 1911, he moved to Madison when he was two years old. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1933 with a degree in economics and subsequently owned and operated his own insurance agency in Milwaukee. In 1979, he moved to Florida from Milwaukee.
He was a long-time member of Congregation Emanuel B’ne Jeshurun and a lifetime member of the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association. He especially enjoyed golf and helping people, according to his wife, Esther Ruskin of Pompano Beach. “We were married for 63 years and he never said an ugly word,” she told The Chronicle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons John (Sherry) Ruskin of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Robert Ruskin of Coconut Creek, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held March 20 at Star of David Memorial Gardens, North Lauderdale. Fla.
Memorials to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
