The Milwaukee Jewish community will hold its annual Israel commemoration-celebration events on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 2-3.
The events are programs of the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center and the Israel Center of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation.
The Yom HaZikaron (Israel’s Remembrance Day) ceremony will begin at 6:15 p.m. on May 2. Its theme will be “Honoring the Israeli Victims of Terror.”
Israeli guest and terror victim Oded Ohana will speak. Free activities and child care are offered for children age 8 and younger during the event. Registration is required but there is no cost to attend. Adina Altshull is event chair.
On May 3, 4 p.m., “The Walk with Israel Led by Milwaukee’s Jewish Youth” will begin the Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day) celebration. The walk will start at the Karl Jewish Community Campus north parking lot and continue to Congregation Shalom, where the celebration will continue at 4:30 p.m.
Parking before the walk will be available at the JCC and there will be shuttle service from the synagogue back to the campus’ north building parking lot. Jeff Schuster is event chair.
At Shalom, entertainment will be provided by Rick Aaron & Friends and Lenny’s Magic Show. Rides and activities — including arts and crafts, a climbing wall, and Jordan Valley Jump — will be continuous from 5-8 p.m.
The five-member Nachal Ensemble will perform contemporary and classic Israeli folk music at 6:30 p.m.
There will also be a food court from 4:30-7:30 p.m., with items available for purchase from Bella Caffé, Emes Kosher Catering, JCC Maccabi Club and LeParve Bakery. Aimee Bachar is chair of the celebration.
The committee for the overall celebration of Israel is chaired by Moshe Katz and co-chaired by Yoni Zvi.
The event is co-sponsored by 32 area synagogues and Jewish organizations and agencies.
