Former Milwaukeean Mildred Holman (nee Waxman) died of pneumonia on Oct. 6 in Denver, Colo. She was 80 years old.
She was born in Milwaukee and graduated from Washington High School. She also attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Holman moved to Sheboygan, where she raised her family. In Sheboygan she was a member of Congregation Beth El, where she was active in the sisterhood. She was also a lifetime member of Hadassah.
She returned to Milwaukee for a number of years when her children were grown, and then moved to Boynton Beach, Fla. She spent her final years in Colorado with her children.
A storyteller and puppeteer, she performed in hospitals, at schools and with community theatres. Described as outgoing by her family, she loved art and music, nature and travel, painting, and her garden in Sheboygan.
She also “threw memorable annual Hawaiian parties,” her family said.
Her life was “full of the ups and downs of bi-polar illness,” according to her family. She used her creativity and sense of humor to succeed.
Holman is survived by her daughter, Jodi (David) Glater, of Lakewood, Colo.; a son, Charles (Jodi) Holman, of Evergreen, Colo.; a sister, Gloria Krasno, of Milwaukee; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service took place Oct. 8 in Denver. Rabbis Julian Cook and Jamie Arnold officiated. Burial was on Oct. 16 in Mound Zion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to Hadassah are appreciated by the family.
