Former Fond du Lac resident Lillian Winograd (nee Barash) died May 1 in Wichita, Kan., of congestive heart failure. She was 88.
She was born in Russia and immigrated to the United States in 1922 with her family. She graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1933 and continued her studies at Fountain City Business College. She lived in Fond du Lac for 70 years before she and her husband, Ben, moved to Wichita 10 years ago.
She was active in the Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Israel of Fond du Lac, Hadassah, Jewish National Fund and Self Help Hard of Hearing Association. Her family said she was “truly a woman of valor who was known for her loving kindness.”
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Belle Anne (Philip) Freund of Menomonee Falls and Susan (Richard) Downs of Wichita; sister Lucille (Jack) Rosenberg of Milwaukee; sisters-in-law Hilda Barash of Madison and Shirley Winograd of Milwaukee; brother-in-law Louis Winograd of Milwaukee; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Morton Shalowitz officiated at the funeral and burial on May 9 in Fond du Lac.
