Milwaukee resident Libby Heiman (nee Prusow) died of an aortic aneurysm on Nov. 24. She was 90.
Born in Marshfield, she attended Marshfield High School and then the University of Wisconsin-Steven’s Point, where she received her bachelor’s degree in education.
According to her family, “As a teacher, she gave her students guidance and caring” at Gaenslan School in Milwaukee, where she taught until she retired at age 70.
She was a member of Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue and Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun. She was also involved with the Beth El sisterhood, Hadassah, and the Jewish Chaplaincy Program, for which she volunteered as a driver. She also belonged to the Eastern Stars, the Milwaukee Teachers Association, and the Wisconsin Educational Association.
According to her family, she was “a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.” She was also “very business oriented” and helped her daughter with her business until two years ago, and was an “integral part of her parents business in Marshfield.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Heiman, in 1977. She is survived by daughter Shari Beispiel of Glendale; son Zale (Sandy) Heiman of Milwaukee; sisters-in-law Eva Prusow of Menomonee Falls and Libby Ruben of Los Angeles; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Gideon Goldenholz officiated at funeral services Nov. 28. Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
