Leonard Mendelblatt

Longtime businessman Leonard Mendelblatt of Glendale died April 19. He was 87.

A Milwaukee native, he graduated from North Division High School and Wisconsin State Teachers College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and remained active in the Jewish War Veterans. He was a past commander of the Stanley Marsack Post 145, JWV.

He operated Leonard’s Household Specialties for many years and then sold insurance for 30 years.

He was a member of Congregations Beth Israel and Shalom and was a past president of Shalom’s Brotherhood. He also belonged to B’nai B’rith. His special interests included playing golf and bridge.

He was the father of Gary (Terri) Mendelblatt of Thiensville and Jeribeth Jones of Glendale; brother of Fay Forman of Detroit; and brother-in-law of Joan (Jerold) Berman and Robert (Lillian) Tolkan. He is further survived by six grandchildren. His wife, Betty Mendelblatt (nee Tolkan), died in 2000.

Rabbi Ronald Shapiro officiated at the funeral on April 24. Burial was in Mound Zion Cemetery.
