Milwaukee resident Leonard Benjamin Kleinerman, M.D., died of complications from a stroke on Feb. 6. He was 83.
Kleinerman was born in Milwaukee. He attended North Division High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received both his bachelor’s and medical degrees.
In addition to working as a physician at Milwaukee’s Medical Surgical Clinic he taught at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He also belonged to the American Medical Association and the American Physicians Fellowship.
As a member of Congregation Beth Israel, he was active in B’nai B’rith International Wisconsin Council Gilead-Memorial Shofar Lodge. He also volunteered for the Anti-Defamation League and Jewish Family and Children’s Service (now Jewish Family Services, Inc.).
His family described him as a “gentle, ethical man who loved medicine and always had time for his patients and his family.” Kleinerman’s many interests included stained glass crafting, matting and framing, playing the clarinet, fishing, reading and playing bridge, his family said.
He is survived by wife Marcia Kleinerman, nee Benner; sons David Kleinerman of Layfayette, Calif., Nathan (Teresa) Kleinerman of Milwaukee and Mark (Amy) Kleinerman of Mequon; daughter Karen (Michael) Waldman of Brookfield, Conn.; and nine grandchildren.
Rabbi Jacob Herber officiated at funeral services at Congregation Beth Israel on Feb. 9. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.
