Mequon resident Karen Bookstaff (nee Paschen) died Aug. 28 at the age of 66 of a heart attack.
Born in Milwaukee, Bookstaff graduated from Shorewood High School in 1957. She earned an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 1991, she founded C.A.N.D.I.D., Citizens AgaiNst Drug Impaired Drivers.
She was a member of Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun.
She is survived by husband, Edward; son Charles (Gerald Bloomberg) Green, of Boca Raton, Fla.; daughter Roberta (David) Young, of Buffalo Grove, Ill.; step-children Carolyn (Larry) Kaye of San Diego, Howard (Karen) Bookstaff of Houston, Shari Bookstaff of Pacifica, Calif., and Stephanie (Matthew) Turk of St Louis; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Aug. 30 at Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun. Rabbis Marc Berkson and Ronald Shapiro and Cantor David Barash officiated. Burial was in Agudas Achim Cemetery.
